Saturday was a lovely day for Hunter Trials, in spite of the wet forecast. Even with the rain earlier in the week the footing was good and there was no problem with parking in the field.

Rockbridge Hunt Spring Hunter Trials Tomorrow

While this wonderful rain will make the spring grass grow, it is making us consider whether on not we can hold our Rockbridge Hunt Hunter Trials tomorrow. So far the ground is fine for parking the trailers in the field and footing for jumping. However, there is a possibility of more rain tonight. A weather decision will be posted on this page and available on the Hunt Line 540-462-1113 as soon as it is made.

----Carol 11:00, 4 April 2008 (EDT)

Update: The rain blew through last night and the weather this morning is beautiful. We will be holding the event. Please come and enjoy.

Wind Damage

High winds swept over Broadview Sunday causing quite a bit of damage. Trees fell, roofs were lifted and fence lines were damaged. It was interesting to watch the livestock in these hurricane force winds (no rain). The cows continued to graze but were restless, continually moving. The horses were peacefully grazing as if nothing at all was amiss.

Website Problem Fixed

We had a problem with our Navigation menu on the left of the screen not appearing in Internet Explorer 6. I use Firefox and wasn't aware of the problem until recently. I found and corrected an error in the code that I believe was causing the problem. Since most of our visitors use IE6, I can imagine that they didn't find the site very friendly without navigation links. Hopefully you'll be able to get around a little more easily now. Contact Carol if you run into this or any other problem with the website.

The weather was fine for the Hunter Pace in the morning but turned cold and rainy for the Rockbridge Hunt Hunter Trials in the afternoon. Nevertheless a hardy group of riders enjoyed themselves and classes ran all day. The Tack Tag Sale was a great success with many people finding just the right bit or coat to take home. All in all this was an outstanding fundraiser for the Rockbridge Hunt.

Website Under Construction

We have found a good web host (bluehost). We have updated our content management software (we're using one now). We've got our site blueprint for the site in order (simplified version of the old site). And we've got some new features that we are excited to begin to provide (galleries!).

Unfortunately in our rush to change from the old web host we have left you, our loyal reader, in the lurch. We will begin to really work on revamping the content of the site after Thanksgiving. We look forward to providing more frequent updates than we have recently. Keep checking back to watch our progress.

Parelli Natural Horsemanship & Peacebuilding at Broadview Ranch

A graduate class from The Center for Justice and Peacebuilding at Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, Virginia asked us to do a demonstration with our horses to show them how natural horsemanship correlated to their course on peacebuilding.

There were eight students from all around the United States as well as Rwanda ,Nepal and Lebanon. All but one knew very little about horses and most had not even been close to or touched a horse before, as evidenced by one comment, “I didn’t know horses were so big, I can’t even pick him up.”

What an interesting day! See the event page for more details.
